Accuracy
How we check every answer
Nephite Atlas is built on a small AI model, and AI models can be wrong. So every answer is checked against the scriptures before you see it as final, and we publish what we have measured, including where it falls short.
Three checks on every citation
- Does the verse exist, and does a quotation match it? Our code looks up every reference in the standard works. A reference to a verse that doesn't exist is marked invalid. A quotation is compared word for word with the real text, and a verse range that runs past the end of a chapter is trimmed.
- Does the verse actually support what the answer says? A verse can be real and still not say what it is cited for. When the first check can't settle that, a separate check reads the sentence and the verse together and decides: supported, partly supported, or not supported. A verse is never called verified just because it exists.
- Fix what failed. If a citation is invalid, misquoted or unsupported, the answer gets one or two chances to correct it, using the real wording of the verse or a passage that genuinely supports the point, or to soften or remove the claim. A correction is kept only if it is strictly better; everything is checked again afterwards.
You see the result on every reference: verified, exists, relevance unconfirmed, or no such verse. Tap any reference to read the verse itself.
What we have measured
Measured October 15, 2026, on the same model setup that serves the site.
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Graded questions answered correctly (all 186) | 183 of 186 (98.4%) |
| Held-out question sets, written before any tuning | 50 of 50 and 30 of 30 |
| Citations fully verified | 94.2% (the rest are shown amber, never hidden) |
| Answers that needed a self-correction | about 7% |
| Invalid citations under full load (15 minutes, 16 at once) | 1 of 2,245 (0.04%) |
What these numbers mean, and don't
- The questions are our own: scripture facts, doctrine, Church history and Come, Follow Me topics. Each is graded automatically against facts that a correct answer must contain and errors it must not. Before our accuracy work, the first held-out set scored 84%; we publish that too.
- A verified citation means the verse is real and supports the sentence it is attached to. It doesn't mean every sentence of the answer is right, or that the answer is the Church's official position.
- Nephite Atlas is an independent study aid, not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Read the verses themselves, and for doctrine and policy, rely on the scriptures, the words of living prophets, and the Church's own resources.
